    STANDARD THREAD DETECTIVE

Some experienced machinists can identify, at a glance, screw gauge, thread type, length, etc. For those of us who do not have much experience, a homemade gauge like this can be helpful to identify the size and thread pitch of both nuts and bolts. It includes nut and bolt sizes commonly used at the workshop: # 6, # 8, # 10, # 12, 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8, in (standard) coarse and fine thread:

Although there are many commercial models, I preferred a homemade version.
You could also make a metric thread detective.

    Regards.

This is a really great idea. I have always been envious of the board at my local Ace Hardware for sizing random bolts and nuts. Thanks for posting this one.

    Thanks, blkadder.
I made this gauge almost four years ago, and was partly motivated by envy I felt at seeing gauges in hardware stores and some online catalogs. I can guarantee that It has been very helpful for many projects.

    Gracias, amigo jotasierra.
Buena idea la de tener un muestrario de remaches pop. Lo que sí quiero hacer es un detector de cuerdas para tornillos y tuercas milimétricas. Saludos.
