Yup. The capacitive losses over any significant distance on that cable would be substantial. If you ran two of them side by side you could have a good upgrade path to HVDC.

Based on the core insulation I would think they are running in the low to mid-Khz range to be effective for the primary phases. But that is some serious amps...likely a lower voltage. Early Aircraft and old navy stuff used to run at 400hz. Also interesting are the 2 conductors at 11 and 5 O'clock which appear to possibly be some form of Coax although the Braid wire is quite large or even Cu tubing?? Brings a whole new meaning to multi-conductor control and power cable.
