    Is that a toothpick for a trigger? Since they like to stay inside the wood to be moist, how to you tempt them to eat the toothpick?

    Or am I missing something?

    The trigger is a compressed cellulose stick, and there's a number of long paper tubes that comes out the bottom of the plastic tube that act as guides to the trigger. Here's a page showing the full device, and here's a pdf explaining how they work.
