While working with my router table I needed to space the finger boards out from the fence and up from the table to guide a piece of hand rail while I cut a channel in the base. There were many 3/4" thick scraps laying around, but they were too thick. After a quick look around the shop, I spotted some paint stir sticks. So I cut some 4" and 6" pieces from them and with a bit of masking tape I had my spacers. And they worked a charm. My slot was quickly and SAFELY routed.

Bonus: the paint stir sticks are thin enough to simply break them in half in a bench vise if you are in a real hurry.

Now I need to get some longer bolts for those finger boards. And figure out a way to make some with adjustable spacers.
