The ones for the Sherline have not been bent yet and I do tend to tighten things up a lot.
They are not too hard since I can file them.

I think drill rod is a good material for them.
Maybe drill blanks would not bend but since they are already hard they may just snap!
Bit of danger there so be extra careful if trying them.

Drill blanks are very hard and also might damage the chuck holes.
