Tool Shims Using RFID Tags

I remember seeing on YouTube or in my reading a reference to using the thin steel parts from RFID anti-theft tags for tool shims. The one I took apart had three 0.001" thick x 0.25" x 1.45" thin steel shims. I am sure the shim thicknesses depends the RFID tag manufacturer.

What is your source for those tags?

Maybe I am confusing those tags with something else, are they security tags found on electronics in department stores or something else like keys for cars perhaps?

The thin metal shims are from the parts found inside the RFD security tags from department and electronics products stores. In this example, I found only three thin metal parts sandwiched inside a thin white plastic case (approximately 2" long) and the case was glued inside of a shoe box. In other cases I have found up to six thin metal shims ranging from 0.0015" to 0.0025" in thickness and depends upon the RFD security tag manufacturer.

Thanks Paul! I've cut those open before but find they have some Super Goober Glue on them and found about the only thing that cuts it is Acetone. Aren't they laminated too or etched bi-metal? Good tip for shims and better than the land fill. Thanks ~PJ
