Trash can handle/basket for storing dustpan and brush

Member "matthie" recently posted a fix for a replacement trash can handle:
Homemade Replacement Trash Can Handle - HomemadeTools.net
I have a similar two-wheeled trash can, but I deliberately removed the handle to attach a wire basket that I made. The basket serves both as a handle for the trash can that I use in my shop and it holds my dustpan and brush. It saves time for me to not have to look around my shop to find my dustpan and brush. Also the basket is attached well enough to use it as a handle and move the trash can even with the trash can fully loaded. The wire basket is also positioned to allow me to put in a 55 gallon trash can liner and because it is a wire basket it is not prone to collecting dirt and dust from clean-ups.
I made the basket by bending and welding pieces of wire shelving. I attached it to the trash can using metal straps, self-tapping screws and some threaded rod. I made this years ago and it gets a lot of use, so the pictures are not showing something pristine.

    Hi Denis G - welcome to HomemadeTools.net

Nice first post. Although modifications to a trash can will never be the most glamorous homemade tools, the truth is that a brush and a dustpan are some of the most commonly-used tools in a shop.

Thanks Jon! It has saved me lots of steps and time in my shop. I had thought about getting a janitor's cart like the one's used in hotels and motels to keep cleaning tools together, but they are a bit rare to find used and also have a bigger footprint than what I made. I'll post something less offbeat next time.
