    Universal Grinding Fixture From Plans

Here are the plans by Doug Ross:
    http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/u...9360#post89149

I wanted to make one a bit smaller so I used 2.5" diameter steel for the rotors.
Most of the other parts were made to fit this diameter.
Hot rolled steel was on hand so I used that for the rotors and cold rolled for the flat parts.

Very nice set of complete plans from Doug.
I did not put any numbers on the graduations yet and may do that after I make a stamping fixture.

The divisions are a little cramped with only a 2.5" diameter but are very readable. I think this is just
the ticket for sharpening and forming lathe tool bits.

    Cheers, JR

You did a great job JR, very well executed and displayed, these fixtures will greatly improve the grinding of your lathes tool geometry, I use mine frequently, it comes in very handy especially when grinding say a 29° acme threading tool or a 60° HSS threading tool.

Thanks for posting your completed tool on homemadetools, you can receive any one of my other plans free !

    Thanks Again and nice work

Thanks Doug. The plans are very clear and complete with drawings and dimensions for everything which makes for an easy build.
I have been looking at your extended point center and just may order it in the future.

    Thanks again John

Nice job! I like your use of an annular cutter instead of a monster drill bit. And noticed you nearly maxed out you steady rest diameter there. It all worked out perfectly.

Thanks guys, actually I did max out my steady rest! The steel rod I was turning would not fit and I had
to take a file to part of the casting. But it all worked fine in the end. Fun project and I like the results.
    Ready to start grinding!

    Cheers, JR

Thanks JR, glad you found the Universal Grinding Fixture plans complete and understandable, the Extended Point Live Center really comes in handy for smaller diameter work and trying to incorporate the cutting tools,

    Thanks Again

Very, Very Nice JR and love the way your scaled it to your needs. The gradations are a thing of beauty also and the finishes superb considering the materials! Thanks for sharing the build and can't wait to see your stamping jig.
