Far better clamps than the cast ones that come with many smaller V-blocks, thanks for reminding me that I need to make a few.

Do not want to hi jack this tread, but need to make myself a set of "V" blocks.
But before I redesign the wheel, what are the steps to machine the blocks?
Will adapt sizes in order to utilize this idea for the clamps.
Are the clamps narrow enough to leave enough space in those slots to clamp the V blocks using those slots on the sides?

If you feel unqualified get a skilled machinist to help you with the project.
the measurement for the block will be determined by the internal size of your square tube.
1. mark a center line on a squared block on three sides, using blue or red marker dye.
2.mark a v shape 45* on the center line on the front and back .with the center line on the bottom of the v.
3.on the top of the square, on the center line, drill 1/4 inch holes all along the line to remove as much metal as you can, staying inside the v lines on the front and back of the block.
4. Mill on a 45* table to cut the rest of the metal away that you could not get with the drilling. Or use a hand file if you don't have a mill.
5. The side slots are done in the same manner as above except marking a square instead of a v shape drill as required.
6. Cut the square tubing twice on one side to what ever size you cut the slots on the side of the block and file to fit.
the answer to your last question is yes.
Note. you could use a end mill to cut the whole thing out but end mills are expensive so I use drill bits to save wear and tare on the end mills. Drill bits are cheep.
