Hi Robert, they are for aligning metal vertically then clamping the metal before welding to get a perfect 90* weld.
On one project i needed to weld a vertical square tube upright it needed to be clamped in place these will do the job nicely as they are clamped to the table and are a perfect 90*square. Magnets are good at short levels but not up to 12 inches.
So the more fixtures one has the greater the chance of keeping it true to form. cheers :O)
