    WARNING / Lathe Chuck Brake

    Dear all,

Please note that chuck jaws are getting loose by every sudden stopping
if there is no work tightened in self centering scroll chuck.
If you do numerous starts / stops when checking how good is your brake,
there is great possibility that jaw(s) will fly out from the chuck.
Always observe lathe rule no. 1; NEVER STAND IN FRONT OF THE CHUCK.

    Regards

This is correct. Inertia of unloaded [no part in jaws] rotating scroll will assuredly spin after fast stops, maybe half a turn or so. As many members are running 5" or 6" chucks, few turns are needed to release the jaws from scroll and launch them.
