Good call.

It's an emasculator.

After the testis and the spermatic cord are excised from the scrotum the cord is crushed using the clamp operated by the upper lever. A convenient ratchet allows the operator to maintain clamping pressure without tiring his hands. We're told that crushing the cord minimizes bleeding and speeds healing (Yeah, I don't want to think about it either.).

After sufficient crushing, operating the lower handle pivots the curved knife downward and severs the cord and frees the testis.

I should point out that most barnyard emasculations are done using only a local anesthetic to dull the pain of the scrotal incision needed to gain access to the cord and testis.

I do believe it's done a bit differently on humans. (Although you really don't want to know about the Chinese method for producing the eunuchs who ran the empire.) The procedure for producing operatic castrati was far less invasive. The last castrato died in the early part of the 20th century.

You mentioned it didn't you! It rang a past life bell of an acquaintance named Vlad...And you got me...I looked! Perhaps treppanning should be brought back for political daemon relief, with a side of Judas cradle for those really stubborn daemons.
