I've printed the big magnifier head, that took 6hrs 45minutes + cooling time. The hole for the lens is not quite right but I believe I can sand it so it fits as I deliberately made the wall size quite thick. Some of the holes for the LEDs will also need a run through with a file or drill bit.

Hey Andy,
Very cool. Nice progress, too. Can't wait to see the final product. Keep at it!

The lamp was a bit top heavy at full extension so I melted some lead into the base. I also printed some more thumbwheels so I now have a full set.

Next wiring up and a revarnish.

Hi Andy,
A bit of a work in progress, then?
Did the wood scorch much from the lead? What's keeping the lead from just dropping out of the lamp base?

No, I was surprised that the wood did not burn. In theory it should have done as the melting point of lead is about 70deg above the burning point of wood. There was a bit of bubbling of the varnish but no smoke.
Basically the hole is a bit rough so the lead is wedged in the hole, which is quite deep.
However there will be a front panel of stainless steel screwed over the front which holds the switch and power socket.

The lights are in and the lid is on, so it's quite close to being finished
