Woodturning tool rest, medium and small size
Hi,
You know what ?
I have a brand new wood lathe !
It has much more capacity compared to my old Chinese one.
So it is an opportunity to build plenty of new tools, especially the tool rests and steady rest I had will have to be re-done or adapted because it is no more compatible.
This one has a 30 mm diameter post for the tool rest (this is quite big), so here is a series of new tool rests.
First I present a couple of standard shape rests. The only one delivered with the lathe is 350mm wide (huge), so I made a 200 mm and a 150 mm for smaller pieces.

The build is rather straight forward, the post is trued on the metal lathe for the bottom side, and the other side is cut at 45° with a big angle grinder. One cut makes two posts at 45°, it's the reason why I made two of them. The top piece is a big piece of flat steel, cut at 45° and MIG welded.
(My weld is quite hugly, I know ...:sweating: )
