Does the add overlap only happen with videos or pictures too. I know most people post pictures and a write-up, I prefer videos, if a picture is a thousand words, then a video has to be at least 10,000.
actually, after I clicked in the corner of the ad, and responded to the reason for wanting to get rid of the ad....and after waiting for 4 seconds or so.... the video opened up to full size.

Prior to that, it didn't show the right half of the video screen. Result was quite frustrating.
I understand that the site needs to pay for traffic etc, but pop up ads are annoying, even if eventually, you can make one disappear.

BTW, we're kind of neighbors. I live in Hamilton

Really a super job, the idea is innovative and more usable than lateral mounting, congratulations !

    Hey Guys,

Just checking on the ad issue: is it a YouTube ad that's obscuring the video or one of our HomemadeTools ads? I'm not seeing either, myself.

I like your idea on positioning the DRO. Great work on the video.

Thanks, and I've got a question.

Quite a few people said this video was a good one, not just the idea of the dro. Why is that? Can I get some responses as to why my video was good? I did have a couple negative comments about having the background music, but reall there were many sources of good comments.

Nice job and well thought out.
I haven't tried this tip, but I understand that the wear apparent at the cross slide screw is usually in one direction, and it is in the nut, as opposed to the screw. This wear can often be removed by reversing the nut, or making a new nut.

p.s. Good video and music as far as I am concerned. Clear and to the point, music quiet and not distracting.

    Thanks for the comment.

I think I have both wear on the screw and on the nut. I'll have to see if I can measure the wear on the screw one day.

My SB lathe is about the same age as yours and I made a new crosslide acme screw and nut for it, an easy way too check wear is to lock the slide and measure the backlash on the feed dial at 1 inch intervals. Assuming that wear on the nut will be more of a constant than on the screw it will probably tell you that the worst area is between the C/L and about 2.5 inches out where most work is done and so the variation would be wear on the screw, this was true in my case.
However as you have done a super job of fitting a DRO you have made backlash irrelevant and given your lathe a better than new accuracy.
The reason I did not fit DRO to my lathe is that I do a lot of milling with it and so backlash is something I needed to reduce is much as possible.
