I have successfully used a Propane torch to put 45 degree bends in 3/4 schedule 40 PVC white pipe with a failure rate of less than 1 in 5 on the first time try on a run of less than 10. The result wasn't pretty in most cases. At the end they started to look pretty good. They all stood up to pretty rough use as Wipe-ON wand applicators for Round UP herbicide. Some were used as sword to slash though large clumps of Johnson Grass for at least 24 hours of working time. I used some of the wands for over 4 years.
