Actually my name is David Haythornthwaite - not James as shown on this site. Yes Gary, I did consider at length whether to put a key in the bottom of the vice. There was no key slot in the vice and I would have needed to mill it - no problem. However I also use the fice on a rotating base so it would have been a nuisance. Thank you for your interest.

That vise looks a lot like the one I have. I got mine used and I've always wondered where it came from. Where did you get yours from?

I'm not knocking your work, but wouldn't it be easy to put a key or two on the bottom of the vise that fits in the T-Slots? You would be very close if you made the keys fit accurately and if you needed it to be more precision, put an indicator and run across face of the fixed jaw.
