Carving, ivory inlay, and engraving? Very ostentatious, indeed. Wealthy hunter maybe, or a devoted spouse. But likely never went afield. Might prove existence of man-caves by 1570's though.
Too short-hafted to be labeled 'axe'. Barely deserves 'hatchet', you'd rap your knuckles on the smallest twig!

This was in the same time period that the landsknechte were being murder hoboes throughout the HRE. It might have been a Landsnechte Officer's tool/possession. Cause those guys dressed ultra flamboyently, and maintained their wealth in what they could carry.
