Almost perfect caramelized toast on that side just turn it around to complete the process my 1950's era 2 slice toaster could do that on both sides of both slices so can my 1980s 4 slice toaster but I have a nearly new one that will always either burn 1 side and not the other, or burn the bottom and leave the top cold it never gets my toast right.
Safety stickers? back in that era people had open fires in their homes they knew not to touch things that were hot.or if they did accidently get their hand or fingers burned there was always some fresh churned butter to rub on the burn to sooth it no calling 911 for a helicopter for care flight them to the hospital so a DR could prescribe an aspirin

We bought a DASH mini toaster oven when our toaster died, much better than the toaster ever did and we can put odd sized bread in it.

And...it has a mechanical timer and mechanical thermostat, surprised it didn't have a Bluetooth interface.

I have considered buying one of those or something similar for the reason you mentioned just haven't convinced the wife that she wants one

I got it cheap from an overstock place. Check eBay for good prices.

My grandparents were still using one very similar in the 60's, grandma told me not to touch it because it got HOT, it did... No worries about the exposed elements electrical potential, nor the frayed cotton and rubber insulated flex just below the light bulb fitting connection plug.

We still use this today, of course now it's on a transformer to run on 220V.

I had assumed the 120V heating elements were in parallel and planned to just rewire them in series for 220V. Nope. They're 60V heating elements in series.

So, transformer it is.
