1965 Dodge, Chevrolet, and Ford truck comparison film - video
-
Back in the days when you couldn't really lose buying an American-made truck. I don't know much about trucks made since 1990 or so, except for Land Rovers, but I know the bang to buck ratio is way, way down.
-
My Dad had the Chevy when I was a littleun. Most "Trucks" now are open station wagons that can carry not so much. When I was a kid you could carry a 4 x 8 sheet in a station wagon. Try finding trucks that do that now!
-
A similar comparison today would have lengthy discussions of...
number of cup holders
smart phone charging outlets
voice command control of entertainment center
etc.
The presence of an engine might be acknowledged but any feature described by a number would be removed during edit.
My favorite auto ads are the Subaru "dog-tested, dog-approved" where any discussion of the vehicle design is avoided.

There is a 2021 Ford F250 4 door cab sitting in my driveway right now 'not mine', that can not only haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood with the tail gate closed but can haul a stack of it weighing 3,600 lbs and stay within the MFR's suggested GVW. But I'll stick with my 93 F350 crew cab diesel and my 91 F250 super cab diesel for real work, I don't have to use furniture blankets to prevent scratching the paint. but when it comes down to it I can put 1,800 lbs worth of 4x8 whatever in my 2004 Expedition
people who buy those crew cab pickups with the 5 ft beds are the reasons why a half decent pickup costs 40K now and one specked out with all of the creepy comforts can go as high as 100k and still none of them gets better mileage than my 30 year old trucks do and I don't have to put up with the engines stuffed under the dash of all of that plastic and the goofy electronics, air bags wifi gps tracking or some computer telling the thing when it has low tire pressure or the wiper fluid is low the expedition excepted

You are in a small club Frank. The little trucks out number the normal trucks in Canada by a wide margin.
I agree whole heartedly about using the appropriate vehicle for the job.
The "full sized" truck has shrunk by a lot. In 2010 we tried to find a bumper for a rusted out back bumper on our 2003 Chevy. Found a 79 Suburban rear bumper. The kind you jacked up the vehicle on. You remember! we measured the lengths and found that the Suburban was 8 inches wider than the "fullsized" modern Chevy. Wider than even the FORD Raptor. We get marketed to. Told everything is better. But I'm a little skeptical. More expensive yes. More tricks and comforts yes. Better? Debatable.

I've got nothing against little trucks. Heck I own a 83 Subaru Brat 4x4 they don't get a lot smaller than that one. I also have a 98 Masda B3000 and a 2007 ford Ranger The ranger and the brat currently are not runners but my 91 F250 or my 93 F350 Diesels get better mileage than the Masda and can do it with 3 to5000 lbs in the bed @ 75 to 80 MPH all day long where as the Masda struggles to be able to hold 75MPH empty unless I run premium grade gas in it
I don't know how the Expedition is going to do on gas since I have only recently gotten it ready for the road, but as far as the creepy comforts go it is the Eddy Bauer edition, who ever bought it new must have went down the check list for options and checked every one of them it was more dressed out than the Lincoln Navigator. My friend's 2021 F250 I am taking care of for him didn't even come with some of the things on my Expedition.

......."Truck" describes a w-i-d-e spectrum.
Guys, might realize Frank S never discontinued his 70's era Army motor pool days, well now into the 21st century...... It's vehicular identity reassignment central. Whatever it takes to haul them, lift them, fix them, cannibalize them, re-configure them, and need be, bury them.
Lol. Spell check wanted to insert 'canonize' them.
No, I don't think he goes THAT far.
Hi, good buddy!
