I wonder what model of computer this was...the 90's had a lot of mostly impractical pointing devices for laptops until the industry settled on the trackpad model they have today. We had a bunch of Gateway laptops at work in those days with a pop-out marble-sized trackball in the front, under the keyboard which was awful to use.

OH! More obscure hardware. Around 2005 I bought a laser keyboard. It's difficult to use, and it WILL NOT see you if your hands are dirty or greasy. And it also doesn't see black people, which is hilarious. But it's a cool party trick.

I can do you one better. I used to have a really cool little super flat mouse that fit into a card slot on a laptop. So you plug it in and it would charge from the computer. You pop it out and it had a little kickstand under it that made it more three dimensional and less flat. And you just used it like a normal optical mouse. It was kinda neat.
