4x4Builds.net: Toyota Tundra Chinook by IRBIS
This Toyota "Tunook", built by IRBIS on IH8Mud.com, is a clever combination between a 4x4 Tundra and a Chinook camper.
The base vehicle is a 2001 Toyota Tundra with a 4.7L V8 and an automatic transmission. The camper section from a 1976 Chinook was removed and added on to the Tundra.
The builder then installed some 4x4 and camping-friendly additions: front and rear winch bumpers, onboard air, multiple deep cycle batteries, second gas tank, propane heater and stove, snorkel, and CB and Ham radios.
The walk-through from the camper and the truck was then cut out to a larger size for convenience. In order to keep the center of gravity within reasonable limits, many of the extra items were installed beneath the frame of the camper.
It was nice to see an expedition 4x4 build, as opposed to a more common rockcrawling project. The builder here ended up with a reliant, self-sufficient, yet powerful and capable 4x4 rig that was built for long-term fun.
