For anyone that has a need of a brand new CV axle shaft assembly, to salvage this, go to ebay, and search for "CV axle shaft assembly" modify, but for the cost of the free shipping you can have two CV joints for less then $20UDS (in quantities that exceed 10). Auto parts stores clear out old stock that's not selling. They FedEx for free, less then 4 day delivery. It's crazy.
The spline end that slides into the transmission differential, that's a short stub into the bearing that hold's the radial forces that the suspension system and steering knuckle impart. How does that work?
I've only torn apart baby cars that use these axles and front wheel drive, with 3cyl 1liter engines (87 Suzuki Justi, rebadged as a Chevy Sprint, and a 98 Chevy Metro, made in Canada with a very crappy version of that 87 design, going from carburetor to throttle body injection, and fuel mileage went from 57 to 42MPG, but weight of 3doorhatback went from 1400lbs to 2200lbs). I scrapped the cars from Iowa salt winter rustout. But I recall just pulling hard to pull them from the transaxle.
I'm trying to think of ways to hold that, as it exceeds my 80mm headstock thru hole on my tiny big lathe. I can use a cut off saw, to cut into parts that can be held, but I'm thinking keeping the two
