Advice on extraction fan

Hi All
I would be very grateful for guidance and advice. I am wanting to put an extraction fan on my spray booth but they are very expensive even secondhand. So I was thinking of modifying a bouncy castle air blower which are cheap as chips and use this to remove fumes etc. The motor is external to the fan so there is no flammable fumes over the motor. So before I buy one I thought I would ask if anyone has done anything like this or am I missing something really obvious whyI should not do this? I can’t find any information on line.

watch for brushed motors and flammable vapors

Watch the craigslist free section for a range hood, bathroom fan, or over the stove microwave. All of those have sturdy blowers that would be good for the application. If you need one sooner, get a blower motor and impeller from an auto scrapyard and make a housing for it out of wood or foamboard.

Possibly make an angled venturi type system, thereby the paint and fumes do not pass through you air pump,

I would think that one of two things would work. One would be to find a "squirrel cage" centrifugal fan that you can power with an external induction motor. Something like dust extraction systems. The other would be to use an air pump (fan) to feed air into your exhaust pipe and suck the paint fumes out that way. I think if you search on venturi type systems you might find something. I'm curious to see what you come up with.

If you were to use a bounce fan a focus should be on good filters before the intake and something that is easily changeable or cleanable. I would think the centrifugal blades would get coated with paint debris rather quickly. Regardless where you put the motor it is an ignition source if the air fuel ratio is in the ballpark. Obviously it has to be isolated. Interesting thread . . . .
