I already don't like flying, this isn't helping - but this is what happens when you enable skynet to do airline planning...

Airplane travel will be obsolete when the transporter is in production.

"Transporters allow for teleportation by converting a person or object into an energy pattern
(a process called "dematerialization"), then sending ("beaming") it to a target location or else
returning it to the transporter, where it is reconverted into matter"

That's going to be a hell no from me! The fun has been beaten out of flying, between TSA and comfort on the plane due to the seat pitch and width. Standing... NO!

On Saturday, I leave for a work trip to Shanghai from South Dakota. 3 sets of flights, the long haul flight is ~13 hrs. 2 other flights are 3 hrs and 1 hr.
I can't imagine standing for that length of time, ugg!

Beaming, while interesting in the movies, is a process of scanning a body, then destroying it, and building a new copy at the destination.

I am going to be a big no on that as well.

Having to die to travel is worse than a maybe death while travelling, and then you get to die again on the return trip.

Robots can stand and an AI in the cockpit doesn't even need a seat - think cars with driverless capability.

    Then there is this autopilot:

A good thing cigarettes hadn't been banned from flights when the movie was made, or the scene would have not been complete.
Never try to tell me it can't be done

In theory, the same technology could be used to cure disease, erase cancer, rejuvenate/replace any tissue. It could be the ultimate trip. But on the other side, one mistake and you could become the fly.
