I've been wanting to build this for a while now, not that its efficient in any way, just something neat to build in the winter months. So far the build has been cheap, but I plan on adding a hopper and a can ejector, as I want this to hang on the wall in the garage and not take up any space.

like you say great fun item to have in the shop and build in the winter. There is only problem I can see. I would end up drinking way too much Pepsi or even worse beer, just so I could play with the crusher on the wall.
Please remember there are other well-known brands of soft drinks that could be used within this crusher.

I think, for safety's sake, after you've had a few brews, you might want to have a two-valve setup so you have to have both hands away from the crusher. Maybe a feed chute too to keep the hands away from the compartment.
Great project! Hope to do one of my one one of these days! I think we need a video of it crushing a full can! Maybe whipped cream or shaving cream eve!!!
Great novelty but the big drawback for me is that beer is the only fizzy thing I drink and never around machinery also being pneumatic it needs air which means the compressor running and beer is for quiet time and conversation.
A friend of mine has one that is wall mounted with an attached bottle opener. To use you place can in appropriate area and step on a pedal. when pedal is released can is flicked sideways through a cut-out into chute to a bin by a cam triggered spring loaded lever which re-cocks as pedal reaches top of stroke.
Amazing fun to use and far harder to describe than to see how works. I'd take some photos but he is in South Island so bit far to go.

cool I really like it. I recycle cans but will still use my boot as there is always some fluid left inside and I dont have that many to warrent making one. I will say that currently I have about two sulo bins full of squashed cans=time to go to the recyclers. When trying to give up beer I was drinking soft drink & my GP & specialist told me not to, as that s..t would kill me. LOL.
A bit of trivia=About 30 years ago a local couple of bushies reportably died from drinking (one soft drink mixed alcohol & one beer) from cans poisoned by rat urine on top of cans. Never heard of any others so maybe a "old mans tail"
Quite possible, there are several diseases that can be caught from rodent urine. I can't for the life of me remember the name but I caught one when working in the waste industry and was bedridden for a couple of weeks and suffered some brain damage as a result and I know of several other people who have caught same thing from farm animals. Most people don't react but continual expose can sensitise some. In my case it was thought that the time I spent as an Opossum trapper had sensitised me and then getting exposed again years later when a bit run down had allowed it to take hold.
On crushing cans a popular one is two car wheels mounted just touching each other and one wheel driven. Drop can at top and it gets crushed as it passes through.
I'm not sure if rodents could be involved but Both Giadria & campylobacta are quite dangerous & possibly fatal: I was lucky ( extremely fit at the time) with both=fevers, migranes, diarrhoea etc really drains the body (excuse pun) and both can be caught by humans from contaminated water (tank, creeks etc). Like when i had gangreen & staohylococcus, I had to burn my matterss & pillows-the toxins sweat out of the head mostly. Campylobacta in adults is usually caught from children who have played with poultry.

Yep, Giardia was an occupational hazard but the body adjusts, bloody dangerous world out there actually!
I did a quick You Tube search and found a few examples. Everybody has a few old wheels and hubs lying around and this is the quickest way I know of apart from a commercial crusher.

Dont think a 4 Hp motor needed. LOL. Could probably be run with old washing machine motor. Definately a fun thing to make if plenty of spare time & some scrap lying around. Thanks for sharing.
P.s the guy with the 250 can crusher reminds me of "croc dundee" & that's not a can crusher : "this is a ..............." or maybe 007 "goldfinger" with "oddjob" having the new car squished into a suitcase:- bit more commercial & a lot less fun than the 2wheel job!
A slow but relaxing way to let off steam. Something relaxing about steam engines: must be the clickety clack like on the old railroad track. reminds me of "Morning Town Ride"
What you fellows are talking about may be Hantavirus. It is from the waste products of rodents, and can cause hemorragic fever and pneumonia in humans.

I think the name is Hanta virus. I made a can crusher from scratch piston and all. I will take some pictures and post them up.
