    Airplane fuel tanks turned into Vietnamese boats

    During the Vietnam war, US planes used aluminum drop tanks to store surplus fuel for jets and tankers. The tanks could be jettisoned mid-flight, or, in some cases, were simply abandoned on the ground.

    Clever Vietnamese people cut and customized the drop tanks into capable canoes and river boats.

    Good one Marv! I've semi followed Bonneville and saw those Lakesters and thought they looked suspiciously like drop tanks but they were never the focus of the story I was reading.
