Amish belt-driven machine shop - photo

Again - it's just stupid when you let your belief in magic interfere with the reality of needing to get things done.
Stupid.

Looks a lot like the shop I apprenticed in back in the 60's albeit a lot cleaner!

Back in the 50's my uncle had a one man oil refinery where he processed used aviation oil into serviceable engine oil and as part of it he also had a belt driven machine shop powered by a stationary flathead V8 motor. Everything about that place was dangerous as all git out. The first vehicle that I ever drove (at age 5) was his Studebaker tanker truck in granny low gear. That photo brought back some really old memories for me.

Years ago the guy down the street from me was having his house resided and he had a crew of Amish doing the the work.
Well they had a gas compressor running a air powered DeWalt chop saw!
