Ancient Chinese jade burial suit - photo

Looking at that makes me want to say, "Klaatu barada nikto."

I saw this at a museum display in the 70’s or 80’s and there was a lot more than just the suit. I remember the amazing jade chain, carved from a solid bar. Incredible work. The burial suit is nice, but isn’t really all that amazing, if it weren’t jade.

Opulence in general, I don't find impressive. I'm no socialist, but cannot escape how labor and expense might been utilized beneficially, instead of superficially.

I’m sure a lot of the material used was offcuts from the first shaping of stone for statues. A good craftsman wastes as little as possible.

Kind of how I feel about a million dollar "Yacht" falling off it's trailer!

Having a bit of time aboard yachts; both guest and contract work, my appraisal became this; if a trailer can move it, it's only a boat.

sounds about right, and no matter how large or small they are they are still nothing more than a hole in the water you pour money into

True about the hole, disagree about "nothing but". The only real hole, is in real water, salt water.
