I love insane old stuff like this. My favorite is before toothbrushes became commonplace in homes, hotels would have communal toothbrushes for guests to use. It was considered luxurious at the time.

I liked the communal hotel maids.

(As an aside... I had an older fellow in my office several times for glasses and contact lenses. Most charismatic chap I've ever known. He told me he had 9 children by 6 women. Married the same one, twice. On his last visit he told me he had just returned from Salt Lake where he had bypass surgery. He told me he talked a hotel maid into helping him test his heart while he was recovering.)
