My first job off the farm (really, off the farm) was to unload a gravel truck onto a conveyor for a hot roof crew. Easy, I thought. At the end of the day I was exhausted and the crew was just finishing up on the roof. The beer was there, too. I watched a man just walk backwards swinging a watering can, minus the head, pouring hot tar onto the surface while another guy spread the gravel to it. Evidently, I did well enough at the job, they offered me a permanent job. Not for me. That was too hard!
