    Seen a few old manual steering gear boxes used as gate openers. Simple to build a salvaged garage door opener remote and circuitry 2 limit switches a steering gear box and a small electric motor with 2 sprockets for the speed reduction

    In my experience any box below grade even with a "water tight" cover will fill up with water.

    Have you by any chance experienced the wonders of modern polysulphide adhesive sealants? : ) Looking at the video the box is above ground level but perhaps a good few Silicon absorbent sachets tossed in before sealing would not go amiss huh?

    Anything underground.....ANYTHING underground WILL fill up with water.

    Even underground conduit requires use of waterproof cable.
