Shamoo, is that you down there?

Interesting how 2 went the same way but the third slipped off the other direction. I wonder what caused that?

Physics caused it.

Difficult to get good measurements from the video, but it appears to me the load is not centered on the barge. Perhaps the load was offset to starboard on the front barge.

In the image below, it appears the load is offset to port. With the center of rotation so low on the narrow barge, any list to port greatly exaggerates the imbalance. Once it gets to far, there is no saving it.

From what I have studied in the past is that logs that are transported by loading onto a ship or barge, the transporter is designed to unload that way. That's why one barge tipped one way & the next one the other way. I would cause too many problems for all to unload on one side.

Exactly. This was on purpose. It's how they unload the barges.

It is still listing because water is pumped into that side to make it list to unload the logs! It will be corrected after that side is pumped out.

Yes indeed, that is why I posted that second video . It clearly shows and explains the intentional dumping process.

In the original video; the logs were piled as high or higher than width of the barge which quickly raises the tipping moment above the center of rotation, the barges are not listing after the logs fell off indicating they were not ballasted to induce the tipping action, there is no support craft visible to tend the now drifting logs as there would be near a lumber mill, the crew member reaction all indicate to me that dumping incident was not intentional.

I certainly admit, I cannot be 100% sure the first video was an accident, but the evidence leads me to believe that situation was not intentional.

For what it's worth my take is that they dumped it in the wrong side or the wrong place.

The video is shot tight so we have no idea where they are. Could be dockside for all we know.
