Base for Shopsmith as fixed drill press

Managed to buy a second Shopsmith, mainly for the accessories that were included with it. But what to do with the main unit? Well, this may seem sacrilegious to some, but without the room for two Shopsmiths in the workshop, but greatly valuing its facility as a drill press, I decided to set it in concrete!Attachment 7912
The tubes have been greased and wrapped in cellophane, so in theory it should be possible to pull them out!Attachment 7913
The surface is level and next to my bench. I have retained the form work because I filled the bottom half of the void with off cuts of chipboard to economise on concrete. There is still room to fit the little bandsaw partly beneath the Shopsmith table (not shown)

I have done the same with an excess Shopsmith. They make a wonderful drill press.

I have an old Shopsmith [ 60s vintage] but I value it too much as a lathe to do that. Great idea though, I like it !!!

I still have the base on mine but cut it down so it's only 16 inches long. It's portable but takes up very little space.
