Beach mat for amphibious deployment - GIF and photos

    Beach mat for amphibious deployment.

Yes, these must be somehow inspired by Hobart's Funnies, the famous WWII modified tanks. Some examples:

When bundles of of sticks are used instead of a mat, the bundles are called fascine.

Deployment in regions where the terrain can have both soft sand as in dunes or boggy mud as in swamps or a simple would be straight forward beach landing all have their pit falls when it comes to transporting equipment across it, the same as trying to build a runway for landing aircraft in the jungles. In some areas even track laying equipment like dozers would become bogged down. The advantage of the chainmail type matting was a single cargo truck could lay a long enough strip that the rest of the wheeled vehicles could reach more solid ground where hopefully they could penetrate into whatever awaited them. For runway often dozers would clear the landing strip area then a battalion would lay out PSP (Perforated Steel Plate) and interconnect it to form a solid runway PSP was also used to construct all sorts of things from bunkers to barrier fences. A triple stack of razor wire outside then a 9 ft high wall made of PSP then a 6 ft high stack of sand bags around the perimeter of a company compound made for a decent field fortress
Never try to tell me it can't be done
