Bending Strap to Angles Greater than 90

The last time I visited Bill VanOrden’s (Beevo’s) shop I was shown a simple way to bend strap at angles greater than 90. Beevo was gracious enough to let me write it up. This technique uses standard drills to set the depth of bend. I added the math.

Great tip, I've been thinking about how to build a strap bender.

    Rick,
Also, thank you for doing the math and statics for a better cause and effect explanation for what is happening to the strap.

Same for me, this simpler is the most clever !
Actually, drill bits can be used as gauges in lots of situations.
    Cheers !

Yes, drills make wonderful gauges. I did buy a set of "spacers" which are also very useful. They are disks ground to an accuracy of +/- 0.0001" so can be trusted to the nearest thou. Well worth the money.
