This double cockpit runabout, built by Tom Drake on Glen-L.com, is a good example of a basic but carefully-built and fun boat. It cruises at 34mph, and handles quite nicely on a light chop.

One of the upsides of runabouts is that they often have mahogany decks. The deck strips on this runabout were cut from a large mahogany plank, and the grain patterns were alternated for the layout before being caulked and urethaned.

Tom had an interesting solution to a common conundrum among boat builders - the flip. At a certain point in a boat build, the boat often has to be turned over so that the hull points downward. Tom's solution was to hold a Flip party, and a bunch of partygoers had an easy time carefully flipping over the runabout.
