beats a beating or killing a deranged person. can see applications. We had a bunch of police kill a lady who had a knife & was waving it around: yet a guy mumpling with a book and machetee and attacking old folk way hit by a neighbour with a pailing and subsequently tackled by police. Spurr of the moment decision. I can imagine the weight of all the necessary weaponry carried by our police "in case" . Sad World.
A mate of mine was cleaning beach toilets around 3am when he was attacked from behind by a drug affected guy. He was down and almost out when the automatic urinal flusher distracted the assailant & his adrelin kick in & escaped almost certain death.
Really, who would want to be a cop? They just hate going to domestic violence incidents ( as my police friends advise).
So, as long as the person requiring restraining, who is presumably acting aggressively and waving a weapon around and being generally agitated, agrees to calmly stand still and passively hold their arms to their sides, whilst 2 officers position themselves in the firing position, this will work?
Shoulda' had Ravel's Bolero playing in the background. :p Interesting design and seems to work well with the laser pointer and almost exact location of the shot. If you miss them for some reason the Pow might stop them in their tracks. I wanted to see the dingle balls on the end of the cord...can't be very big.
What happens if the guy suddenly drops down and these things wrap tightly around his neck? That won't end well...
Ballistics comes to mind. These things have a limited range and a measurable/calculable muzzle velocity and known mass. Unless aiming a the chest and the person is very, very quick I doubt that could happen unless he was in motion when pulling the trigger. He could put up his hands much quicker. If he was running away...shoot for the legs.
Of course there are other factors like recoil and trigger pressure to name a few and yet the laser pointer seem to be dialed in for that range and ballistics.
More on this, and it certainly bolsters the notion that this restraint only works on someone who is passive and still.

"Powered by a 9mm blank, the BolaWrap exits at 640 feet per second and wraps 1-3 times at an effective range of 10-25 feet."
What exactly is a 9mm Fractional Blank? https://wraptechnologies.com/purchasing/
Interesting verbiage in their spec sheet.

I still think it could be used on someone in moderate motion and still wonder about the recoil based on the shape and way its held. But it seems more for less lethal combatants...or distracted pedestrians :p...riot control???
Interesting design but pricey $1k for the gun...rounds pretty cheap considering the machining and assembly.
Thanks for the update info.
When I was with the 52 MP Btn at Ft Sam Houston the call came in about an escaped patient from Brook Army medical ward 8 and was roaming the post in her hospital gown. They found her in the stock area of the Post exchange ripping open and consuming bags of potato chips it took 7 burly MPs to restrain the 120 lb woman using an air cargo net I have no idea what she was high on but when the Mp's came to the motor pool for shift change they all looked like they had tangled with a grizzly bear.
Technologies like the bola wrap and other non lethal devices are badly needed for instances like that one.
