Not sure quite what to call this? Bolt down milling plate or waste milling plate or breadboard??

Very simple to make, 9 x 5 grid of M4 threaded holes 20mm apart. Fixed to the table using 4 M6 countersunk bolts.
This just gave me a very flexible fixing plate that I could happily machine down to and through if needed.

At work we call them fixture plates. Usually I will grab a piece of scrap aluminum out of the garbage bin for this usage. It will get resurfaced many times before it is too thin for the vise. Often a pocket will be machined into the surface to hold a part in place with a minimal of hold down clamps.
There are actually two classes of these sorts of fixture plates. I call one an expendable plate. The other is usually made out of steel and done so with a bit more precision wit the intentions to last for ever. In either case you need lots of small toe clamps of different size and shapes, plus other parts to make such plates really useful.
