Umm - pretty much concieved by the Polish Cryptanalysts Marian Rejewski et al. already in 1932,
though Dennison, Knox and Turing et al jumped on the bandwagon in 1939,
when Poland "exported" "the Bombes", people and info to France.
This stuff and staff then got over the Channel when France fell.

Just my shorthanded 2 cents.

They rarely do in Hollywood - they're NOT investigative reporters.

For instance: "U-571" claimed the Yanks first got hold of the Naval Enigma, too...

(It also showed a WWII naval yard worker with a present-day yellow DeWalt grinder,
and after firing a torpedo, one of the crew uses a Swatch (funded in 1983) chronograph,
just to name two "mishaps" in the making of that movie.
