Bowden cable bird nest tool.
I have to make a lot of cables so I decided to make a tool to create a proper bird nest instead of just splaying the ends. While making the tool I decided on 9 apertures for every cable size I may need.
2* 1/2 inch bars were first drilled for alignment dowels and the holes were drilled on the joint line after separating with thick card to clamp but not distort the cable. roll pins are to locate the tool in the vice jaws.
The secret to make a good bird nest is use a punch with a concave end (I just used a spotting drill).
This is the most common method which requires dressing after soldering.
This is the result using this tool with no further work needed after soldering.
Following Tony Foaels advise I am now using a solder pot instead of a flame, mine is just a 16mm stainless acorn nut found on a dog walk.
