Just goes to show loose long flowy clothing is not for wearing in the water. She would have been better off just shucking the dress when she went under.
For some reason it reminds me of a scene in the Poseidon adventure the Preacher ( Gene Hackman) told the women they should remove their evening gowns while the group was getting ready to ascend a ladder then have to go down a corridor and jump in the water Linda Rogo (Stella Stevens) refused because she wasn't wearing anything underneath the Cop Mike Rogo ( Earnest Borgnine) said why aren't you wearing pants.
Don't know why the bride jumping in the water made me think of that, I guess because both scenes were funny to me
Never try to tell me it can't be done

if the bride could guarantee hitting the water head first, the skirts would stay in the correct orientation to avoid covering her head, but she hasn't the height for that unless she did a running dive.

Being that the dress was strapless a headfirst dive would have exposed more than up turned petty coats

It looked like a lot of fun until she hit the water. The dress would have trapped her arms as well. The brides maid realised she was in trouble almost immediately and went in. Thankfully it ended in smiles and not tragedy.

I read on a photography site a few years back that this was a gimmick among wedding photographers a while back that was called a "Trash the dress" shot. After the wedding was done, the last shots would be of the bride doing something crazy to destroy her wedding dress, like rolling in the mud or jumping into water like this. It apparently fell out of favor when a woman was pulled under in a river by her waterlogged wedding gown and drowned.
