What am I missing? Over 7 minutes of removing flaps? What's the end result?

I can see where ripping the frayed cloth backing from the flaps to expose fresh grit as a possibility but way too much labor involved for the end result but if it works for you that's great we all have our little idioms of how to get more use out of our consumables.
I don't care much for flap disks but I do keep 1 mounted for braking the sharp edges off of the cuts for thin materials. That's about the only thing I have found they are good for.
The 7" resin fiber disks are my favorites stack 3 or 4 on a rubber backing pad on my 9" angle grinder then as the top one looses most of its grit just cycle it to the bottom of the stack once all are worn down then cut them to 5" diameter and use them on my 5" angle grinder I have on occasion cut them down further but by the time the 5" size is worn down there is not much left but they do work then on a die grinder as 3" for a while.
For the flap disk I just let the edges of the materials wear then down otherwise there is way too much wasted grit in the overlapping flaps.
