broken 10-32 tap (restoring a small hand vice)

Thank you for inviting me into the form ( i am new first time post)
I like to contribute just not take
I am attaching a video i made trying to restore a small hand vice
2 mistakes first in a rush i cross thread a hole second mistake used a cheep tap to to clean the hole then snap
broken 10-32 tap

I generally dont attack problems for which I don't have some proper or improvised tooling. This is from experience; one of which I'll share here. In saying that I probably would have tackled such a problem before the removal of the broken tap ( i have repaired a few vices).

I'm not set up for or into metal lathe stuff but this does remind me of early to mid 70's when my V8 had a cooling issue & only the small hole in the trermostat was allowing coolant to flow, so I went to replace the problem. What happened was one of the housing retaining bolts broke so I went & purchased a set of easy outs. Of course, the easy out brokeoff in the siezed broken bolt. No hss drill I had would look at the easy out (probably a cheap & nasty critter) so I replaced the housing without a thermostat & with one bolt and drove to my dad's friend (head mechanic for an airline) and he solved my problems.

I tried to reply to you earlier but it did not go threw
The tap was a 10-32 HSS
The drill was a 1/8 masonry bit (did not work because it has a negative rake angle)
I also subscribed to your YouTube channel

Reason I was asking about it being a carbon steel tap was I never broken a tap that small nor have I ever had to to drill or mill out a tap in all my 45 years of machining, not saying I never broke a tap, I've always been lucky enough where the tap protruded enough to grab it with something and worry it out.

The braking of the tap was 100% my fault
I was in a rush to finish up the video and testing out a go-pro
I should have stopped an hour earlier but i was so close to finishing
going fast only took 100 times longer

I used to work with a friend and we tapped hundreds of 6-40 thread blind holes in customers firearms. My friend would break a tap off at surface height or below about a half-dozen times a year. Fortunately, my wife has family members than have an EDM shop. I would just hand it off to them and they would burn the broken tap out.

we are going to getting rid of the EDM machine we have to make room for cnc lathe
so there will be no sink EDM videos from me
