This is clever.

The discerning eye would wonder why there are spaces at the top and bottom of the vertical rails - whereas the horizontals don't have spaces where they butt up to the rosettes. Also, hiding or making the gaps between the shelf bottom and the drawer below it more integral to the design wouldn't allow them to give away that there's something more to this display.

If a thief was in a hurry, this could be pretty secure.
