Buried power line failure - GIF

I do not think that line was buried. If you look closely at the pole on the left, you can see the line leading down from the pole. Most likely fallen from a pole out of frame to the right.

I am guessing the news media reported the line was buried because someone saw sparks shooting up from the ground. But they did not bother to actually investigate.




We had this happen to the power leading to our house last summer. A bad connection at the top of the pole heated the bolt, caught the pole on fire, the pole burned through which dropped the high voltage lead to the ground. Fortunately, the attaching point across the street was a "breakaway" type so the line was no longer powered when it hit the ground.

The electrical grid in our country is getting to be in very bad shape.

In my situation, the line that fell was for a single house running from the main line, across a road to the pole in my yard.

The line in the video appears to be a main line, similar to the line mine is attached to. There would not be a break away device in that situation. I would guess there was some kind of accident to the right, out of frame, of the video.
