Apparently the screw is for adjusting the length of cut for the button hole. As an alternative you could use a button hole chisel!

Have seen stop screws on high grade diagonal pliers, but scissors? Not holes sure how large blades work opening stitches across button holes, but they are Singer brand, made in Germany, and buttonholes do get rather large. What more could a seamstress or tailor want?

That was an insightful video Marv. Of course now I'm thinking about refitting a pair with a micrometer head, an anvil on the opposite handle, a larger notch for gathering fabric into, much bigger finger loops, compound cutting action, cut counter, etc. I guess this is why I'm not a scissor designer!
