This log cabin was built for $500, by OutsideFun1 on Small-Cabin.com.

How? In a nutshell:

-heavy-duty tarp for a roof
-set on patio stones
-rough-cut poplar floor
-windows scrounged from trash
-throwaway waste oil stove
-door made from dining table

The 10x10 cabin was built in under 8 months, with 52 logs cut from 5 acres of pine forest. The builder, a young man doing the project for his church youth group, had no previous construction experience. It was built on remote land in Northern Ontario, with no machinery besides a chainsaw; the builder even showed off a homemade sledgehammer.

When another poster recommended to retrofit the cabin with footings, OutsideFun agreed, and then uttered a classic build thread line:

"First I was going to build a nice fort and then it ended up turning into a cabin."
