This 1960 Chevy Impala was restored by Impala60, an 18-year-old Finnish enthusiast on 348-409.com.
American car culture is strong in Finland (our recently featured Finnish garage build accommodates 11 AMC cars!), and this is no exception. The Impala originally arrived in Finland from Palestine, Texas in autumn of 1988, with a matching numbers 283 and a Powerglide trans, before the builder was born. His father and friends swapped in a 327, then swapped BACK a matching 283.
In the spring of 2009, the vehicle failed inspection because of rust, and was parked. When the builder turned 18 (the legal driving age in Finland), his father gifted him the vehicle, and the job of restoring it. This is one of those build threads where you roll your eyes at first reading about the "gift" from Dad. Then, as it progresses, you develop a lot of respect for the builder and his build.
It's often shocking to see young people post quality build threads, especially when you think of your skill level at age 18. Impala60 did a great job hunting out old Bondo repairs, cutting out rust, patching, welding, spray primering, and painting.
Headers, brake shoes, whitewalls, lots of elbow grease, and the Impala is ready to cruise!
