We don't have a fireplace, but have a wood stove, we try to use it as our primary heat source. It doesn't bother me if the temperature in the house fluctuates 20 to 30 degrees, but my wife can't take that much fluctuation. So, it falls on me to try and be an active thermostat keeping the fire small enough, so the house doesn't heat up to 85 or drop to 50 overnight. I have installed several muffin fans and a duct from the main room through a closet into the bedroom to carry the heat from the main room to our bedroom and a gang of muffin fans to carry the heat down the hall otherwise with a moderate size fire in the stove the main room would reach the upper 80s when the outside temps drop to the 20s or 30s and my office some 65 feet away would be a slightly uncomfortable 55. With the muffin fans circulating, my office will be nice 68 while the main room is only 80. Not bad for a 55-year-2000sq ft old rancher style that could use new windows in several of the rooms
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products
